October 29, 2023

ADL Heroes Against Hate Award Program

The Heroes Against Hate award program is a way to recognize and honor those in our community who have fought discrimination and proactively led efforts against hate. This year, ADL Texoma is proud to recognize one adult Hero and one student Hero for their role in combating hate of all kinds.

This year’s Heroes Against Hate are Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia and Carter High School junior Akela Larzei.

Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia has been selected for his work to implement policies to reduce violent crime and build community, through transparency and proactive approaches to police work. Chief Garcia’s commitment to public safety and community engagement is making Dallas a safer, more unified city.

Carter High School junior Akela Larzei has been selected for her community outreach and advocacy efforts. Larzei is involved with the U.S. Army Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC), serves as a youth leader at her church, plays tennis, golf and softball, is a member of the high school yearbook staff and participates in the youth guidance program “Working on Womanhood”.
